Although mobile networks are still mainly used to make phone calls, there is a strong growth of data communication in mobile networks. With the arrival of 3G techniques like HSDPA, mobile networks are becoming the domain of smart phones, handheld computers and laptops for data communication. This shift in communication has also its reflection on lawful interception. Whereas interception in mobile networks used to be mainly voice-oriented, nowadays IP interception is just as important.
